Help us celebrate. The Florida Keys Council of the Arts will be honored by the beautiful Lookout Lodge Resort in Islamorada at a sunset celebration on Thursday, January 16, 2003 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The party is co-sponsored by First State Bank and Mr. D's Island Design.
Donald Zinner, owner, and David Cohn, member of the Board of Directors of the Arts Council, have arranged for fun, food and entertainment by Dave Feder.
The Council promotes and supports the Arts in Monroe County and is supported primarily by grants, memberships and donations. This event will provide an opportunity to join the Council to show your support for the cultural arts. Then, you too can say that you support All the Arts, in All the Keys, All the time! Because the Council does that, with your support.
For instance, the Council supports local artists by providing projects or venues that pay the artist for his/her work. ArtReach is a grant for individual County artists and arts organizations in performance, visual arts, or writing. Artists in school invites writers, historians and visual and performing artists into the classroom. Art Behind Bars gives inmates with good conduct the opportunity to contribute to the community through the donation of their artwork after attending 2-hour art sessions at the Monroe county Detention Center. The Senior Lunch Time Music Series features celebrated artists from the Florida Keys who perform in Key West, Big Pine, Marathon and Plantation Key.
To promote the Arts, the Council also compiles and distributes a Gallery Guide for ALL of Monroe County and a Who, What, When and Where brochure of all the arts and cultural events every three months.
